Blue Ridge Medical Center Primary Care

Primary Care

Family Practice is the medical specialty concerned with comprehensive health care for the individual and the entire family. Family Practice doctors and nurse practitioners at BRMC take care of managing all of your health care needs. With an emphasis on long-term continuing care and prevention, we are here to serve you and your entire family; from infants and school-age children to young adults, adults, and seniors.

Blue Ridge Medical Center Pediatrics

Pediatrics

Blue Ridge Medical Center offers full-service Pediatric care from birth through adulthood. In addition to routine care for illnesses, injuries, and concerns, children require regular visits to assess their growth and development and to ensure that they are progressing as expected. Although the schools only require immunizations at certain ages, your child is best served by regular updates of immunizations so that there are not too many required at any visit. Our Pediatric staff is familiar with the various stages your child (and your family) will go through as your child grows and changes. You can be better prepared for the changes in your child’s diet, behavior, and growth as well as being able to handle these changes more appropriately if we discuss these issues before they occur. This is done by regular well-child visits and discussions with our staff. We can help you and your child have a pleasant, safe, and productive childhood. Please call to arrange a visit to establish care or for a well-child exam.

Blue Ridge Medical Center Dentistry

Dentistry

Family Dentistry at Blue Ridge Dental Center includes dental care for the whole family–from infants and school-age children to young adults, adults, and seniors. We are concerned with your dental health at every stage of growth and development. At the Blue Ridge Dental Center, we focus on preventive care so that major dental problems can be avoided whenever possible. We provide estimates for services and can offer referrals for special services or second opinions. Please stop by the Dental Center and take a tour, meet our staff, and ask questions about dental care and services. To make an appointment, please call the Dental Center at 434-263-6310. During off hours, dental problems may be handled by a medical provider. The Dental Center is not staffed for after-hours calls.

Blue Ridge Medical Center Behavioral Health

Behavioral Health

The behavioral health (BH) service is available to everyone (all BRMC locations, in-person or by tele-health) as part of good, overall health care. You do NOT need to be a patient of BRMC to receive this service!

Patients can expect the BH team to ask specific questions about physical symptoms, the emotional concerns you are experiencing, your behaviors, and how all of these might be related. You can expect your appointments to last approximately 30 minutes and may often be on the same day of your primary care visit.

The BH team at BRMC offers assistance to the primary care providers and the patients they care for when habits, behaviors, stress, worry, or emotional concerns interfere with daily life or overall health. The behavioral health team consists of case managers, licensed counselors, medical assistants, and board-certified psychiatric providers. This team works closely with your primary care provider (PCP) to evaluate the mind-body-behavior connection and provide solution-focused interventions.

Together, the BH team and your PCP can consider the physical, behavioral, and emotional aspects of your health concern and help determine a course of action that will work best for you. They can help reduce symptoms associated with various chronic medical conditions or help you better cope with these conditions. A few of these are headaches, sleep, high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, obesity, chronic pain, and irritable bowel syndrome.

The BH staff can help you and your PCP develop plans for smoking cessation, weight loss, alcohol use, exercises, and other lifestyle modifications as well as effectively manage emotional and behavioral difficulties such as anger, anxiety, bereavement, depression, and stress.

Blue Ridge Medical Center Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy (PT) helps people in many ways, but the overall goal is to help people return to activities with less pain and greater ease. For example, therapy helps people regain skills after joint replacements, torn muscles, and neck or back surgeries. Many people have pain from overuse of muscles or strains from falls. Appointments are made directly with Janet Ngai, and sessions are one to one with an emphasis on education and guidance for work at home. Therapy is covered by most insurance companies. Janet can see patients with or without a referral from a doctor. She accepts all insurance including Medicare and Medicaid. Don’t let problems linger – ask about therapy at your next appointment!

Blue Ridge Medical Center  Americorps

AmeriCorps

BRMC has partnered with Public Health AmeriCorps to bring awareness to the need for public health in our communities. Our AmeriCorps members help bridge the gap between the people in our communities and the resources that are available to help them live healthy and happy lives. We are committed to lowering preventable hospitalization rates, enhancing patient awareness for better chronic disease self-management, and fostering youth resiliency to combat substance use among middle school students.

Blue Ridge Medical Center  Accelerating Cancer Screening

Accelerating Cancer Screening

Our Accelerating Cancer Screening Team works closely with patients and neighboring specialty clinics to increase access to age-appropriate cancer screenings as well as any necessary follow-up testing and/or treatments.  With an emphasis on education, awareness, and the importance of early detection, the team’s primary goal is to increase breast, colorectal, and cervical cancer screenings within our patient population.  Despite the many disparities families may face, we work diligently to ensure that every patient is allowed to receive needed screenings, therefore, there are options for uninsured patients as well.  Please reach out to this department if you have any questions regarding cancer screenings, or if you would like to discuss scheduling a screening.  Our team is always delighted to assist you!
